Default Gw + Usb

I searched and found some answers, but they weren't quite clear. I was wondering if you can put the Gw.dat and Guild Wars client on a usb and play it on any computer? Also if GW has an update, will GW update the GW.dat in the usb?

EDIT: Eh, just tried opening GW from the usb, it wouldn't open. Mod's can close I guess

You can play GW from a usb drive, but when you run GW.exe for the first time on a computer, it will ask you where to install the game. Choose the drive & folder the game files are on, (on the usb drive), and it should work. Be aware that, while many usb drives have good seek times, the ability to write to the usb drive is generally much slower, and even usb 2.0 is quite a bit slower than IDE or SATA. Also, even the best usb drive only has a limited # of writes, so keep that in mind as well...

Also, last I checked, GW was just over 4GB w/ all the updates, so you may need an 8GB drive to hold all the files...

Currently (well not exactly - I'm in OSX now <3) I play Guild Wars straight off of my external hard-drive...which is kind of like a USB drive. Yes it works, yes the -image or updates go straight to the drive, and it also saves screen shots to the drive. The whole "new computer" thing I'm not sure about... but Biostem seems to have it right. And yeah - Portable GW is what I use.

What do you mean by # of writes?
